Employee Benefits
At St. Cloud State University, we offer jobs that provide our employees deep meaning in their everyday, working lives. But we also support the whole person—both in and out of the workplace. That’s why we offer a comprehensive benefits package to support your work and personal life. All benefits-eligible State employees are covered under the State Employee Group Insurance Program (SEGIP).
NOTE: Not all employees are eligible. Eligibility is determined by several factors including type and length of employment and the applicable collective bargaining agreement or personnel plan.

As a state employee, you have access to one of the most affordable health insurance plans in Minnesota, along with other benefits to help you and your family be well. Both in-person and virtual visits are covered. The state even offers free convenience clinic visits. The below video highlights the medical and prescription drug coverage under the Minnesota Advantage Health Plan.

St. Cloud State University offers dental coverage to benefit-eligible employees through the State Employee Group Insurance Program (SEGIP). Administered by Delta Dental Group 216 and Health Partners, these plans provide extensive benefits to support a wide range of dental care needs. This may include coverage for preventive, diagnostic, and treatment services, as well as basic and major restorative care. Orthodontic services for adults and children may also be available, subject to plan limitations and lifetime maximums.
St. Cloud State University offers an optional Vision plan through the State Employee Group Insurance Program (SEGIP). Administered by MetLife's Superior Vision Network, this plan is available for all benefits-eligible employees, regardless of whether you are enrolled in the State of Minnesota’s MN Advantage Health Plan or have other medical coverage. While the medical plan covers routine eye exams, the MetLife Vision Insurance provides additional support by helping save of eyeglasses or contact lenses. It also offers discounts on LASIK and other vision-related services.
Employees who are eligible for benefits, you’ll automatically receive basic group term life insurance—paid for by the university. You also have the option to purchase additional coverage for yourself and your dependents. Eligibility is determined by your employee union and the state, but once you're in, you're covered and can customize your plan to fit your needs.

Short-Term and Long-Term Disability coverage are available to most employees who are eligible for benefits. These benefits help protect you and your family's income and assets in case you cannot work for an extended period of time.

Take advantage of pre-tax benefits to boost your savings. By using tax-free dollars to pay for your SEGIP health and dental premiums, eligible dependent care, out-of-pocket medical and dental costs, and work-related transportation, you reduce your taxable income. Contributions are automatically deducted from your paycheck before taxes, which means you may pay less in taxes—and take home more of your earnings.

One of the best benefits offered by St. Cloud State University, through the State of Minnesota, is your participation in one of the State’s mandatory and voluntary retirement plans. Depending on the position you are hired into, you will be eligible for participation in Minnesota State's Defined Benefit Plans (MSRS, TRA), Defined Contribution Plans (IRAP, SRP), as well as having the option to sign up for a Deferred Compensation Plan and Tax Sheltered Annuity Plan.

Tuition Waiver
St. Cloud State University through Minnesota State offers a tuition waiver benefit to most employees based on criteria provided in the various union contracts or salary plans. It provides the cost of tuition and, in some cases, certain fees.
Emeriti Status
St. Cloud State University has established procedures that will identify and recognize dedicated retirees whose service to the University is characterized by high professional achievement, and sustained, outstanding service. Distinguished employees upon completion of employee separation, will need to meet the established criteria and complete the nomination process in order to be honored with the Emeritus or Emerita title.
Information Technology Services
HuskyTech offers a wide array of services both in and outside of the classroom for SCSU students, faculty, staff and emeriti. They provide assistance with technology devices, Campus Card, internet/Wi-Fi, accounts, D2L Brightspace, Microsoft 365 applications and more. HuskyTech is available by phone, online chat, ticket system and in-person.
Software and Business Apps
St. Cloud State offers a broad range of software apps (academic and business) for use under various licensing and contractual agreements. Availability is dependent upon role (faculty, staff, student, visitor or emeritus). Some software, as negotiated with a variety of vendors, is available for personal use at no cost or at significantly discounted rates.
Students and employees get five free downloads of Microsoft 365 for use on work or personally owned devices, plus access to web apps. Apps include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, OneNote, Teams, and more!
University Library
Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni are welcome to use the University Library collections for research and study. On-Campus we also offer a 24/7 Wired Computer Lab (PC & Mac Computers, Printer, Cell Phone charging station, Microwave), Miller Center Room Reservations (for Faculty and Staff), University Archives, and more. Off-Campus - You can remotely access to library resources, including full-text journals, streaming movies, music, and online books from anywhere and at any time!

As a benefit of your employment with the State of Minnesota and Minnesota State University, employees receive a collection of discounts from a variety of companies.
MN State Employees, Inc. (SEI)
SEI is a non-profit organization that offers its State of Minnesota employee members entertainment and other valuable discounts. An SEI membership includes membership in MERSC (Minnesota Employee Recreation and Services Council).
Health Plan Discounts & Perks
As a Minnesota Advantage Health Plan member, you have access to discounts. These discounts are on top of the insurance benefits that you have through the medical plan for state employees. HealthPartners and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota both partner with a variety of health and wellness organizations to provide discount programs and services that help you save money.
