Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The State of Minnesota believes that providing assistance to employees is good business and creates a climate of caring. The Employee Assistance Program (EAP), provides cost-free, confidential, professional assistance to help employees and their families resolve personal problems that may, though not necessarily, be affecting job performance.

EAP is primarily an assessment, short-term counseling and referral agency. Employees use this service voluntarily. The counseling services are geared toward reaching people before personal stress interferes with work performance. Almost any problem can be brought to an EAP counselor including troubled relationships, legal problems, chemical abuse, financial worries, parenting issues, health concerns and grief issues. The overall objective of EAP is to support and value state employees by promoting their health and well being.

LifeMatters Program

As of July 1, 2010, the EAP began working with NEAS, Inc. to replace our existing EAP vendor with services better meeting the needs of our employees through the new EAP and Work/Life Program called LifeMatters.

EAP services can still be accessed toll-free at 1-800-657-3719. Callers will now receive a "live" answer 24/7 where they previously encountered a recording. Face-to-face users will be eligible for up to 6 in-person sessions with an experienced counselor in their local area.

With this new provider, there is now a website: www.mylifematters.com, that is equipped with an expansive library of information in variety of areas including emotional health, relationships, work/life, wellness and workplace issues.
