There Was Some Actual Summer Weather in June
Saint Cloud, MN, June 2026 Weather Summary
More June Rain Than May, But Not Enough Most Areas
The biggest weather-related issue facing Minnesota in June was the persistent dry period since the end of summer 2025. June rainfall wasn't as short as May (at least 2 inches of rain, yellow, on the NWS Water Prediction Service June Minnesota rainfall map), but only eased the dryness slightly (compare June 30 with May 26 on the compare 2 weeks option of the US Drought Monitor). The St. Cloud Sky Central Airport picked up 3.62 inches of June rain, still 0.13 inch short of the average. That ranks as the 71st wettest of the 146 Junes in St. Cloud records. Note, however from the red on the NWS Water Prediction Service June Minnesota rainfall map that Rice, Albany, and Paynesville had over 5 inches of rain. Since the start of August, St. Cloud has picked up only 17.28 inches of precipitation, 6.52 inches short of the 23.80 inch average. That ranks as the 15th driest August-June period.
Hail and Wind Dominated Severe Weather Outbreaks
Some of the thunderstorm periods did produce severe weather outbreaks, most of which produced large hail and straight-line damaging winds. During the early morning hours of June 10, an outbreak of straight-line damage moved across central Minnesota. Scattered large hail occurred in two swaths on June 19, one from Brainerd southeastward, and one over the northern Twin Cities suburbs. And, the June 29 thunderstorms produced a major storm complex from south central South Dakota through central (Bemidji, Brainerd, Grand Rapids) into northeastern Minnesota. There was a wind gust of 131 MPH in central South Dakota. The timing of these storms were during the early and middle morning in Minnesota.
June Alternated Between Mid-July and Mid-September Temperatures
You may have forgotten the summerlike periods in June, but they were around. The St. Cloud average June temperature was 67.5 degrees, 1.5 degrees above the June average. However, there was a dramatic change between June 12 and 13. The first 12 days of the month had 10 highs of 80 or higher with periods of high humidity (note that most days have high temperatures, top of column, into the red area, above average on the June 2026 St. Cloud daily high-low temperature graph). The warm start to June would have tied for the 8th warmest June if that weather had persisted all of June (see table below). On the other hand, the temperature never reached 90 degrees in St. Cloud (only 90-degree high on May 27)
However, a low pressure system moved into Hudson Bay and stalled on June 13, changing the steering winds to northwest-to-southeast for the following two weeks.During the June 13-26 period, only one day had a high temperature of 80 degrees. On the other hand, low temperatures were in the lower 50's or even the 40's (note these days had low temperatures, bottom of the column, in the blue below average area on the June 2026 St. Cloud daily high-low temperature graph). The average temperature was nearly 9 degrees colder, typical of September 11 (see table below). This included a high temperature of only 67 degrees on June 17.
This period knocked the overall June average temperature to 0.8 degrees above average on June 26 before another warm period to end the month.
| Period | Avg. Temp. (°F) | High Temp. (°F) | Low Temp. (°F) | June Rank (if temperatures continued for entire month) |
| June 1-12 | 71.1 | 82.8 | 59.3 | tied 8th warmest |
| June 13-26 | 62.3 | 73.9 | 50.6 | 21st coolest |
| Full June | 67.5 | 78.8 | 56.1 | 41st warmest |
The persistent drier than average conditions led to a campfire ban in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area for the entire month.
