Frequently Asked Questions... why and why now?

Why is this transition happening?

The new Office 365 implementation will allow us to work more seamlessly with other institutions in the Minnesota State system and streamline all login processes.

It will also create a more seamless experience for students enrolled in classes at multiple campuses and a smoother transition for students who transfer to St. Cloud State University from other Minnesota State colleges.

This project aligns with Minnesota State system office board initiative to have all campuses in the shared tenant by the end of 2019.

Why was this timeframe selected?

Because this change was going to be a high-impact to campus, ITS began work early to determine the best timeframe through conversations with President’s cabinet and critical areas across campus. During these conversations we identified show-stopper dates and viable options, considering critical admission periods, sesquicentennial campaigns and the academic calendar, to determine a time of least-possible impact to students and employees.

We understand that there is no perfect time for everyone involved for this type of technical update. We recognized that communication efforts during this time would be difficult because of the low number of people present on campus and engaged during the summer.

The biggest bonus to the chosen time was the level of impact to the student body. The spring graduating class was largely unaffected and the incoming class would not have a significant change, since they would have not yet have been utilizing their account to a great extent. The end of summer session 2 term does have the lowest enrollment period, seeing the lowest possible impact to current students.
