Image Grid

Image Grid

The Image Grid is a layout designed to present a curated set of four images in a structured, balanced way. Its primary function is to enhance storytelling through imagery, allowing web editors to highlight key aspects of a program, event, or initiative in a way that is both aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate.

Accessibility Considerations

By using the tools and components provided as they are designed, you’re not only enhancing the visual appeal of your pages but also contributing to a more accessible digital environment. These tools have been built with accessibility in mind, but their effectiveness depends on how they are used.

Alternative Text (Alt Text)

Each image in the grid must include descriptive alt text that conveys the essential information or purpose of the image. This ensures that users who rely on screen readers can understand the content and context of the images.

  • Best Practice: Alt text should be concise but meaningful. For example, instead of “Image1.jpg,” use “Students collaborating in a science lab.”

Responsive Design

The grid should adapt to different screen sizes and orientations without losing functionality or readability. This benefits users on mobile devices and those using screen magnifiers.

Accessibility is Everyone’s Responsibility

Creating an accessible website is a commitment to inclusivity and equal access for all users, regardless of ability. As a content provider, you play a vital role in ensuring that every visitor can engage with your content in a meaningful way.

Adding descriptive alt text, maintaining clear structure, and following best practices for readability and navigation are small steps that make a big difference. When you take the time to create content thoughtfully and inclusively, you help ensure that your website is welcoming and usable for everyone.

Together, we can build a web experience that reflects the values of equity, inclusion, and universal access.
