The Special Education program will prepare you to create effective teaching and learning environments for individuals with disabilities in state, national and global communities. You will be equipped with professional knowledge and skills to assume a leadership role in public schools, group homes, residential treatment programs or a variety of community-based programs.
Program Highlights
- Available for full-time and part-time students.
- Graduate assistantships offered in supervision of undergraduate field experiences or with assessment and assistive technology labs.
- Five graduate certificate programs in special education provide the coursework required for licensure including: Academic and Behavioral Strategist, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Developmental Disorders, Emotional/Behavioral Disorders and Learning Disabilities.
- Rolling admission is available and students are admitted for fall, spring and summer terms.
Program Distinctions
- Accredited by the Council for Exceptional Children
- Membership in Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP)
- The federal government is sponsoring a TEACH Grant program for up to $4,000 a year for graduate students in special education.
- The Learning Disability Summer Reading and Math Camp helps improve skills for more than 200 students in K-8.
