The Department of Teacher Development prepares teachers who will create humane, culturally responsive and activity-centered learning environments. These environments serve the needs of all students in preparing informed productive, engaged citizens for a changing and diverse world.
Our department is committed to the principles that guide a democratic community. To that end, our teaching emphasizes critical thinking, problem solving and the importance of students becoming active participants in their own professional development.
Our programs enjoy a long-held reputation across the Midwest for the nurturing, innovative and creative approaches to teaching of its graduates and for producing well-prepared professionals for the classroom. In addition, we have one program, Instructional Technology, that focuses on adult learning in non-educational environments such as government and health care.
