Don’t be afraid to try something new! You'll find workouts that are safe, fun and intense. State-of-the-art equipment available in the Fitness Center and programs designed for people at every level of fitness. Our instructors are trained to push you to your limits, while meeting you at your ability level. They give you the confidence and guidance to improve.

Group X Class Descriptions

Express Treadmill Class: Don’t be daunted by this class, you can always choose to walk! Running can add a new level of challenge to your exercise program. Meet us in the Fitness Center for a 30 minute workout each Wednesday at 8:00am.  The class is geared towards those who want to participate in the Friday, December 14th Treadmill relays. Find a partner!

Cycle: Looking to torch a ton of calories in a short period of time? If so, indoor cycling is your new best friend. Pedal your way through a high intensity sprint, hill, and interval cycling workout as we hit the bike for some power-based training. Thirty-five minute ride followed by 15 minutes of mobility yoga and foam rolling.

Express Abs: What do we want?! "Killer Abs!" When do we want them?! "Now!" We know what you want, 25 minutes packed to the max with core-strengthening moves. Come to this class ready to work and you won’t leave disappointed.

Shadow Boxing: Get ready to punch and kick your way to a chiseled body! This class incorporates a mixture of cardiovascular exercises with boxing moves such as jabs, punches, hooks, blocks, kicks, and easy to follow combinations.

Muscle Pump: Balance your fitness routine by dedicating 1-2 days lifting weights! This muscle-fatiguing class works the entire body, torches calories, increases metabolism, and keeps your heart pumping. The repetitive, progressive style of Muscle Pump makes tracking progress and seeing gains clear and keeps you coming back for more!

Zumba™: Skip the workout – join the party! Inspired by Latin music, Zumba moves, grooves, and tones your entire body. This killer core workout gets your heart pumping and spices up your hour at the gym. All fitness levels invited!

Step: This class is fueled by hot playlists and inspired coaching! This athletic, energizing workout is excellent for burning fat, building muscle.  A variety of moves will be combined to develop a routine ranging from low to high impact.  Do not miss the FUN!! 

Yoga: Exhilarate your body and mind. Yoga instruction will emphasize safe alignment in postures, while enhancing whole-body strength, flexibility, and balance. Classes include centering, warm-ups, sun salutations, standing and seated poses, and relaxation. Bring your practice alive and meet new people along the way.

Pilates: a conditioning routine designed to build flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips and back. It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, and developing a strong core or center, and improving coordination and balance.

Power 45: Has your hectic schedule thrown you off of your fitness goals? Are you looking for motivation and a routine? Got 45min? Break away from the norm. In this fast paced class you will enhance your cardiovascular and muscular endurance! Monday's focus will be legs, glutes and plyometrics.  Thursday's focus will be on cardio, abs and arms.  Take the Power 45 seven week challenge. Effective, simple & FUN. 

Private Classes

We've designed private workout classes for clubs, athletic teams, residence halls, sororities and academic classes. We can do it for you too!

Become an Instructor

Certification and Application

We can help you become certified as a group exercise instructor at St. Cloud State University.

Components of the comprehensive weekend warrior course include:

  • Anatomy.
  • Counting and cueing.
  • Class format.
  • Choreography.

A nationally certified exercise trainer will teach prospective instructors to lead:

  • Hi/lo impact cardio.
  • Step.
  • Aqua.
  • Body sculpt.
  • Cardio kick.
  • Yoga.
  • Pilates.
  • Cycle.
  • Stability ball.
  • BOSU.
  • Other fitness trends. 

At the completion of the class, St. Cloud State University participants can try out to join our Group Exercise team.

Group Exercise Instructor Training

Become a SCSU certified Group Exercise Instructor. Components of the comprehensive weekend course includes: anatomy, counting & cueing, class format, and choreography. Trainees will be led by certified exercise trainers to teach hi/lo impact cardio, step, body sculpt, cardio kickboxing, yoga, Pilates, cycle, and many other new trends in fitness. At the completion of the class, SCSU participants will have an opportunity to try out to join the SCSU Group Exercise team. 

Full attendance is mandatory.

Dates

Information Meeting

  • Sunday, February 10, 2019 7pm-8pm (Group Exercise Studio B, HAH)
    This meeting includes important details containing outline of the program, expectations and homework for the week. You will receive your manual at this meeting.

Weekend Training Agenda

  • Friday, February 15, 2019 6pm-9pm
    Participants will learn the basics of counting, cueing, Hi/Lo, and anatomy.
  • Saturday, February 16, 2019 9am-4pm
    Review counting and cueing. Introduce: Kickboxing, Cycle, Step, Yoga, Pilates, Toning, Power 45, H.I.T. (High Intensity Training), Bootcamp Principles, and class format.
  • Sunday, February 17, 2019 12pm-5pm
    Review counting and cueing. Introduce Yoga and Pilates. Interview those trying out to become a SCSU Group Fitness Instructor. Take anatomy quiz. Practice for practical assessment. 

Practical Assessment

  • Assessment: Tuesday, February 24, 2019 7pm-9pm
    Perform a 5-7 minute demo routine.

Fees

St. Cloud State students: $75
Community members: $150
  • Payments are to be paid in full at the end of the informational meeting.
  • Cash, check, credit cards are accepted.
  • Fee Includes: Three day intensive training, training manual, study materials, coupons to group exercise classes & one on one instruction.

Sign-Up Options

This program is designed to train and hire SCSU Students to become group exercise instructors. It is also open to faculty, staff, and community members who are seeking to teach group exercise classes.
