Don’t be afraid to try something new! You'll find workouts that are safe, fun and intense. State-of-the-art equipment available in the Fitness Center and programs designed for people at every level of fitness. Our instructors are trained to push you to your limits, while meeting you at your ability level. They give you the confidence and guidance to improve.

Class Descriptions

Ironman Cycling Challenge

Cycle 112 miles Jan. 22-Feb. 28 at our group exercise cycling classes. Participants who complete 112 miles are eligible to win a TREK bike, helmet and other prizes. Free for all Group Exercise and Combo Fitness members. We encourage biking on your own, but those miles do not count towards the challenge. 

Cycle & Cycle 45

Looking to torch a ton of calories in a short period of time? If so, indoor cycling is your new best friend. Pedal your way through a high-intensity sprint, hill and interval cycling workout as we hit the bike for some power-based training.

Express Cycling

Fun and done! Training sessions last just 30 minutes. Get in, get fit and get on with your day. Each express class is designed for maximum results in minimum time. Guaranteed to work the crabby out of you.

Express Butts ’n’ Guts

Our 25-minute class focuses on those stubborn areas. Get reenergized about a new healthier you.

Express Abs

What do we want? Killer Abs! When do we want them? Now! This 25-minute class is packed to the max with core-strengthening moves. Come ready to work and you won’t leave disappointed.

POUND™

A full-body cardio jam session with weighted Ripstix™ that combines easy-to-follow moves with strength training and Pilates. Expect to de-stress while burning a ton on energy.

Muscle Pump

Balance your fitness routine by dedicating one-to-two days lifting weights. This muscle-fatiguing class works the entire body, torching calories, boosting metabolism and keeping your heart pumping. The repetitive, progressive style of Muscle Pump makes tracking progress and seeing strength gains easy.

Zumba

Skip the workout – join the party! Inspired by Latin music, Zumba moves, grooves and tones your entire body. This killer core workout gets your heart pumping and spices up your hour at the gym.

Yoga

Exhilarate your body and mind. Yoga instruction emphasizes safe alignment in postures, while enhancing whole-body strength, flexibility and balance. Classes include centering, warm-ups, sun salutations, standing and seated poses, and relaxation. Bring your practice alive and meet new people along the way.

Pilates

Pilates (pi-LAH-teez) builds flexibility, muscle strength and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips and back. It emphasizes spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, a stronger core, and improved coordination and balance.

Power 45

Has a hectic schedule thrown off your fitness goals? Are you looking for motivation and a routine? Our fast-paced, 45-minute circuit class will enhance your cardiovascular and muscular endurance. Monday’s focus is legs and glutes. Thursday’s focusis abs and arms. Friday’s focus is a combination of exercises. Take the seven-week Power 45 challenge.

Private Classes

We've designed private workout classes for clubs, athletic teams, residence halls, sororities and academic classes. We can do it for you too!

Become an Instructor

Certification and Application

We can help you become certified as a group exercise instructor at St. Cloud State University.

Components of the comprehensive weekend warrior course include:

  • Anatomy
  • Counting and cueing
  • Class format
  • Choreography

A nationally certified exercise trainer will teach prospective instructors to lead:

  • Hi/lo impact cardio
  • Step
  • Aqua
  • Body sculpt
  • Cardio kick
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Cycle
  • Stability ball
  • BOSU
  • Other fitness trends 

At the completion of the class, St. Cloud State participants can try out to join our Group Exercise team.

Group Exercise Instructor Training

Become a St. Cloud State certified Group Exercise Instructor. Components of the comprehensive weekend course includes: anatomy, counting & cueing, class format, and choreography. Trainees will be led by certified exercise trainers to teach hi/lo impact cardio, step, body sculpt, cardio kickboxing, yoga, Pilates, cycle, and many other new trends in fitness. At the completion of the class, St. Cloud State participants will have an opportunity to try out to join our Group Exercise team. 

Full attendance is mandatory.

2019 Training

Information Meeting

This meeting includes an outline of the program, expectations and homework for the week. You will receive your manual at this meeting.
  • 7-8 p.m. Feb. 10 in Group Exercise Studio B, Halenbeck Hall

Weekend Training Agenda

Participants learn the basics of counting, cueing, Hi/Lo and anatomy.

  • 6-9 p.m. Feb. 15

Review counting and cueing. Introduce Kickboxing, Cycle, Step, Yoga, Pilates, Toning, Power 45, H.I.T. (High Intensity Training), Bootcamp Principles and class format.

  • 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 16
Review counting and cueing. Introduce Yoga and Pilates. Interview those trying out to become a St. Cloud State Group Fitness Instructor. Take anatomy quiz. Practice for practical assessment.
  • Noon-5 p.m. Feb. 17

Practical Assessment

Perform a 5-7 minute demo routine.

  • 7-9 p.m. Feb. 24

Fees

St. Cloud State students: $75
Community members: $150
  • Payments are to be paid in full at the end of the informational meeting.
  • Cash, check and credit cards are accepted.
  • Fee includes three days of intensive training, training manual, study materials, coupons to group exercise classes and one-on-one instruction.

Sign-Up Options

This program trains St. Cloud State students group exercise instructors. It is also open to employees and community members seeking to teach group exercise classes.
