English Proficiency Requirements

An English proficiency test is required of international applicants whose native language is not English. There are two exemptions:

  1. Applicants who will hold a baccalaureate or graduate degree from a university in the United States, Canada or from a country whose sole official language is English, will be exempt.

  2. International students who have completed SCSU's Intensive English Center Level 5 program will be exempt. Note MBA, MEM, ACR, MTQ, and RAS applicants: Due to the advanced level of scholarship, the MBA, MEM, ACR, MTQ, and RAS programs may require a TOEFL or IELTS score for admission even after completion of IEC Level 5.

  3. H4 Visa language requirements:

    • Remaining a H4 Visa holder?

      • No language proficiency exams or financial documents required

    • Transferring to an F1 Visa?

      • English proficiency exam and financial documents will be required to support SEVIS certification.

For all other international applicants, SCSU requires that one of the following language admission requirements be met:
