Students in the Recreation and Sports Management major learn how to bridge the fields of sports, recreation and business to have an impact in a fast-growing economic segment of a society eager to balance work and life. Your courses will teach you business, sales, marketing skills, health and safety standards and public relations techniques. We'll train you to understand the personal and social dynamics of leisure and recreation. You'll gain organization, administration and management skills to use in park and recreation departments, professional sports organizations, fitness programs, recreation and aquatic facilities, golf courses, resorts and fitness centers and camps.

Program Highlights

  • Study, work and play in Halenbeck Hall, Husky Stadium and Fieldhouse and the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center facilities that accommodates instruction, research, athletics, and recreational activities.

  • Student organizations, recreation clubs, intramurals, exercise and group fitness provide leadership and community interaction opportunities.

Program Distinctions

  • Human Performance Lab that does corporate research and athlete testing and operates community education and adult fitness programs.
  • Practicum and Internship Opportunities cover a broad variety of placements and positions.
  • Notable alumni: Brad Pickle: Owner/CEO of Pickle Events, a Global Timing Business notably the Boston Marathon and hundreds of running to triathlons races. Justin Miner: Facilities Director of the Vikings TCO Training Center in Eagan, Minnesota.
