Department of Physics and Astronomy

Department of Physics and Astronomy

Students who major in physics or astronomy learn to observe nature and understand concepts that are the key principles in many other science and engineering fields.

That means our graduates become problem solvers in a wide field of industrial and technically sophisticated research and development settings. We also support a program that prepares secondary school teachers.

We specialize in optics and astronomy while offering several directions of study, and provide access to several research programs.

Where we shine

Student success

Our students excel in research and community engagement.

Research

Students join faculty for research in photonics and optics, materials science, nuclear physics and astronomy and astrophysics.

Our Planetarium

Classes and public observation nights give university students and thousands of schoolchildren and community members a unique look at nature.
