Dr. Kay Worner graduated from Drake University with a BSE in Social Science and a MSE in Special Education. She received a Specialist Degree and her Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Iowa State. Dr. Worner is licensed as a secondary and elementary school principal and as a superintendent. In her career, the positions she has held include: regular and special education teaching (junior high and high school), special education regional coordinator, Director of Curriculum and Staff Development, Elementary Principal, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, and Associate Professor in Educational Leadership and Administration. She has written a book on the superintendency and she has worked with dozens of school districts, superintendents, school boards, state agencies, and professional organizations as a consultant, mentor, presenter, or facilitator.
Dr. Worner was selected as Minnesota Outstanding Leader (Kay E. Jacobs Award) in 1996, and Minnesota Superintendent of the Year in 2004. Her areas of interest for teaching and mentorship at the university include: superintendency, community education, school finance, auxiliary functions, and change processes.
