Professor Amos Olagunju, a member of Statistics/Computer Networking, will serve as SCSU's Interim Dean of Undergraduate Studies. Olagunju has nearly 30 years of experience as a faculty member and administrator in higher education, including nine years as a department chair and one year as a dean. He will oversee a number of programs for first-year students and coordinate services with Admissions and Student Life and Development to promote student success.
Chuck Swanson, a global regulatory affairs expert and SCSU's RAS program director, will speak about the growth of St. Cloud State University’s master's program in regulatory affairs and services and the vast changes in the regulatory process for bioscience companies.

SCSU prepares to attract S.T.E.M. workforce (from Bioscience Link)
Central Minnesota is quickly achieving a prime position in the national and global marketplace of the science, technology, engineering and math (S.T.E.M.) industries. This spring St. Cloud State University received $900,000 in state bonding to jumpstart the planning process for a new, state-of-the-art science and engineering building. More

Wilson contributes to a piece on how technology helped Rice-based Ferche Millwork become a national player. Wilson holds a master’s degree in industrial education.

The blog tracks news and views surrounding Minnesota’s more than more than 570 medical devices manufacturers and distributors. Mark DuVal ’79, one of the industry heavyweights on our program’s advisory board, is quoted in the story. Our computer security curriculum has been recognized for excellence by the National Security Administration (NSA), the Department of Defense agency charged with spying on foreign and domestic communications. Recognition at a June 4 conference in Dallas was a step toward certification as an NSA Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. The University of Minnesota and Minneapolis-based online educator Capella University are the only Minnesota colleges to earn that distinction. sctimes.com
Sarah Ertl, a senior from St. Joseph, is working this summer in a research laboratory at Ohio State University in Columbus. She is under the direction of Thomas Magliery, an assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry. Ertl is a 2008 chemistry fellow in the National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program. Based in Arlington, Va., NSF has an annual budget of $6.06 billion, about 20 percent of which supports basic research at America's colleges and universities. chemistry.ohio-state.edu

SOFTBALL: Haines Inks All-America Academic Status
For the first time in her career, St. Cloud State University's Rachel Haines (Pepin, Wis.) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic College Division All-America Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The junior second baseman becomes the first Husky in school history to gain such an honor and is majoring in biomedical science with a 4.0 grade point average. More
Two nursing majors named to NCC Commissioner's Honor Roll
Heather Miller (Sun Prairie, Wis.) a nursing major and Kelley Nelson (Westbrook), a pre-nursing major were among the six women and four men named to represent St. Cloud State University on the 2008 North Central Conference Commissioner's Academic Outdoor Track & Field Honor Roll released May 8 by the league office.
To earn this recognition, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.20 grade point average, have completed at least two semesters at their current school and have competed against outside competition.
