Corporate Education & Outreach

Corporate Education & Outreach provides customized and non-credit professional development training that helps your organization, company or agency stay contemporary and competitive.

Central Minnesota Small Business Development Center

Our aim: A lasting positive economic impact

We specialize in providing the professional expertise and guidance every small business needs to flourish in today’s competitive and every-changing business world regardless of what stage they are at in their development.

We provide services for every stage of business:

Committed funding partners allow us to provide confidential counseling and professional services at no cost to participants.

We help them identify, understand and overcome the challenges of running a successful business.

Training programs and specialized projects or services are provided either at no cost or for a nominal fee.

LegalCORPS

LegalCORPS assists owners of small businesses by connecting them with high-quality legal services at no cost.

A local business attorney visits the Welcome Center the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. Schedule a free, 30-minute consultation at 320-308-4842.

By lending a hand to those who otherwise could not afford needed legal help, LegalCORPS' knowledgeable volunteer lawyers join efforts to make Minnesota's communities great places to live, raise families and do business.

PTAC (Government Contract Procurement)

The Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) provides no-cost to low-cost counseling and procurement technical assistance and training to Minnesota businesses regarding government contracting.

A representative visits the Welcome Center on the first Monday of each month. To schedule an appointment, call 320-308-4842.

The PTAC assists businesses by:

  • discovering government contracting opportunities;
  • interpreting specifications and standards; and,
  • counseling on solicitations prior to submission and post-award compliance issues.

The PTAC mission is to strengthen Minnesota’s economy by stimulating job creation, growth, and business retention. It is administered in partnership with the Defense Logistics Agency, a division of the Department of Defense.

Using market identification, registration assistance, contracting regulations/ compliance assistance and on-going technical support, PTAC helps businesses navigate through the complicated and difficult intricacies of obtaining federal, state and local government contracts.

Staff are located throughout the state and the program operates on a client fee basis. Most of its direct funding is from a Department of Defense award.

Better Business Bureau (BBB)

Businesses interested in seeking Better Business Bureau accreditation can contact the Small Business Development Center at 320-308-4842.  

The Better Business Bureau:

  • is the authority on trust in the marketplace. 
  • sets and upholds high standards for ethical marketplace behavior.  
  • accreditation is a coveted honor earned by elite businesses and charities.  
  • is the pre-eminent resource to turn to for objective, unbiased information on businesses and charities.  Our free BBB Reliability Reports and BBB Wise Giving Reports help you make the right purchasing or donation decision.  
  • is also a significant distributor of consumer and business education information including tips and alerts about marketplace scams.  
  • offers dispute resolution programs for consumers and businesses when there is difference in viewpoints.

Minnesota Trade Office

Our international trade programs and services help Minnesota companies compete globally.  

Through the Minnesota Trade Office, our international business unit, we help companies obtain the information, skills, resources and contacts they need to successfully export goods and services worldwide.

The Minnesota Trade Office visits the Welcome Center on an appointment basis and to provide training opportunities.
