Matt Trombley
Matt Trombley serves as Interim Vice President for Student Affairs at St. Cloud State University, where he provides strategic leadership for student-centered programs and services that support student success, engagement, well-being, and campus life. He oversees a broad portfolio of departments and initiatives dedicated to creating a vibrant and supportive student experience.
Student-Focused Leadership
Trombley brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in higher education, with expertise spanning student affairs, academic affairs, enrollment strategy, organizational leadership, auxiliary operations, emergency management, and institutional planning. Throughout his career at St. Cloud State University, he has held progressive leadership roles including Assistant Dean for Graduate Business Programs, MBA Program Director, Executive Director of Atwood Center, Housing and Retail Operations, and Director of Student Organizations and Leadership Development.
As Assistant Dean for Graduate Business Programs, Trombley led strategic initiatives that significantly expanded enrollment in the university’s online MBA program while strengthening student support systems and academic operations. He has also contributed to numerous cross-functional efforts involving student success analytics, organizational effectiveness, and data-informed decision-making across the institution.
In 2026, Trombley received the Minnesota State Board of Trustees Award for Excellence in Service, recognizing his outstanding commitment to student learning and service to the university community. The award is among the highest honors bestowed across the Minnesota State system.
A collaborative and student-focused leader, Trombley is committed to fostering environments where students can thrive academically, socially, and personally. He holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from St. Cloud State University and is a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM).
