About Our Student Opportunities
Students in the Political Science and International Relations programs are encouraged to extend their studies beyond the classroom by engaging in a wide array of enriching experiences. Through education‑abroad opportunities, the National Model United Nations (NMUN), funded semester scholarships, and hands‑on internships, students actively bridge academic concepts with real‑world application. Whether working alongside mentors in government, non‑profit, or policy settings, or exploring global perspectives through travel, participants gain valuable professional skills and a competitive edge for careers in public service, law, international affairs, and beyond.

National Model United Nations
The National Model United Nations (NMUN) is the world's largest and most prestigious university-level Model UN and each year St. Cloud State students are provided the opportunity to participate in it's large-scale simulation of the U.N. alongside thousands of their peers from across the U.S.
At the 2025 conference, SCSU students represented Afghanistan, Syria, Norway, and the Press Delegation, taking home several awards.
The 2026 NMUN takes place in New York City in early April. Contact Dr. Linda Butenhoff for more information.
