About New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation dives deeper into academic and campus resources, provides space to meet new students, and completes course enrollment if needed. This required program will help you jumpstart a successful career at St. Cloud State University.

Advising & Registration and Orientation are two separate steps, but they work together to prepare you for your first semester at SCSU. Together, these experiences help you begin prepared.

Step 1: Advising & Registration

Creating a strong working relationship with your academic advisor is important.

Review the following prior to meeting with your advisor:

  • Know your Star ID and password. You will need this to schedule appointments and enroll.
  • Make an appointment with your advisor (in-person or online) as early as November 2, online through Navigate.
  • Complete any placement testing needed prior to meeting with your advisor.
  • Meet with your academic advisor prior to attending New Student Orientation. Advisors will be available for walk-in questions during orientation.

Step 2: New Student Orientation

Your required New Student Orientation includes meeting other new Huskies, getting familiar with campus, learning more about your academic college and major, and getting a jumpstart on your success at St. Cloud State University.

Prepare for your New Student Orientation:

  • Register for the New Student Orientation date that works best for you and your schedule. Registration fills quickly, so don’t delay! Registration going live soon!
  • Students can bring up to two guests to New Student Orientation. We recommend a parent, guardian, or spouse, but it’s up to you!
  • Upload a photo for your student ID (Campus Card) prior to your orientation to pick it up the same day.
  • Know your Star ID and password.
  • Advisors will be available at New Student Orientation if you still need to complete your course enrollment.

Orientation Days, Time, and Duration

Each new Student Orientation begins at 9 a.m. and will conclude by 4:30 p.m. Students should be prepared to be present for the entirety of the schedule.

New entering students beginning Spring 2027 can choose from the following orientation days:

  • Friday, November 20
  • Wednesday, December 2
  • Thursday, December 17
  • Thursday, January 7

Get your Husky ID

Get your student ID and learn how you’ll use it around campus.

Understand your technology

Make sure you can log in to your student accounts, access D2L Brightspace, use your campus email, and know where to go for technology help.

Know where to get help

Learn where to go for academic support, tutoring, health and wellness resources, financial help, and other services you may need during the semester.

Get familiar with campus

Find your classrooms, learn where important campus offices are located, and get comfortable getting around campus.

Meet people and get involved

Meet other new Huskies and explore clubs, organizations, recreation, leadership opportunities, and other ways to get involved.

Prepare financially

Make sure you understand your bill, financial aid, payment options, and other important financial responsibilities before classes begin.

Know what to do next

Leave with a clear understanding of what you need to do before your first day of classes and where to go if you have questions.
