Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is St. Cloud State’s premiere concert band, comprised of the finest wind and percussion musicians on campus. It is a creative arena for future music educators, performers, pre-professionals and music lovers alike to express themselves and support each other in music-making endeavors.

The ensemble is committed to the performance and promotion of the richest, most varied music for wind band, ranging from time-honored classics to world premieres of new music. The Wind Ensemble is known as one of the most innovative university music ensembles in the country by virtue of its imaginative programming, fostering of major and emerging composers, unique outreach programs to music education, and its commitment to making music meaningful in communities and in the lives of people.


Auditions for new and returning members are Aug. 21 and Aug. 23.

Auditions consist of one or more provided excerpts and a solo piece of your choosing. All new and returning students should register for MUSP 164 prior to auditions. 

Welcome Meeting

All members should attend the first class meeting on 2-2:30 p.m. Aug. 21 from in PAC 113. We will have a short meeting to distribute the syllabus and calendar for the year and answer questions about auditions. If you know of anyone interested in joining the band, please bring them along.

Wind Ensemble Retreat 4-11 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at St. Cloud State. No cost.

Oct. 26

Halloween Spooktacular Band Concert 6:30 p.m. in Ritsche Auditorium, Stewart Hall.

Nov. 8

Veteran’s Concert 5 p.m. at Whitney Senior Center, St. Cloud.

Nov. 20

Combined Instrumental Ensembles Concert 7:30 p.m. in Ritsche Auditorium.

Ensemble highlights

  • Performs annual Halloween-themed Kid’s "Spooktacular" Concert for campus community and St. Cloud Area youth
  • Travels annually to perform outreach concerts at Minnesota high schools
  • Has hosted bands from University of Manitoba and University of Minnesota Morris for on-campus concerts
  • Members nominated for Minnesota Intercollegiate Honor Band and North Central CBDNA Intercollegiate Honor Band
  • Has been invited to perform for prestigious state and national conferences for Minnesota Music Educators Association, American Bandmasters Association, College Band Directors National Conference and New York City's Carnegie Hall
  • Has traveled internationally to Russia, Scandinavia and Mexico
  • Collaborates regularly with outstanding SCSU applied faculty and distinguished alumni
