University Orchestra meets 3:30-4:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This ensemble can be taken for course credit: MUSP 167. It counts in LEP Goal Area 6 and can be repeated for credit.


University Orchestra

Univeristy Orchestra is open to all students who play orchestral instruments.

The orchestra performs repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary and from concert standards to world premieres, on and off campus.

It meets 3:30-4:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays with Dr. Marion Judish, conductor.

Each audition is about 5 minutes with music of the player's choice and a brief interview

Ensemble highlights

  • Offers master classes with world-renowned artists. Past guests have included acclaimed violinist Midori, the Muir String Quartet, the Miami String Quartet, the Ahn Trio, eighth Blackbird, the Daedalus String Quartet and master-pedagogue Sally O’Reilly. 
  • Holds a concerto competition which provides an opportunity to be a featured soloist with the orchestra.
  • Frequently collaborates with jazz musicians and members of the percussion ensemble as a member of the Collaborative Chamber Ensemble.
  • Travels annually to perform outreach concerts at Minnesota high schools, and has given performances internationally across Europe.
  • Works with composers to premiere new works. Premiered the Oratorio “To Be Certain of The Dawn” by Steven Paulus.
