Emily Olson

Dr. Emily Olson has served as adjunct instructor of oboe at St. Cloud State University since 2013.  Dr. Olson works as a board-certified music therapist in a memory care setting. Dr. Olson also teaches oboe and piano lessons in the Twin Cities area, and she enjoys being able to see students’ musical and technical progress.

 A native of Minnesota, Dr. Olson received a Bachelor of Music degree in oboe performance from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she was awarded the Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award. Dr. Olson received Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in oboe performance from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and she also completed the music therapy equivalency program at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Olson has subbed with the Minnesota Orchestra and Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra. She has taught non-major oboe lessons at the University of Minnesota as an Instructor of Record and has served as an oboe mentor to young oboists in the top orchestra of Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies. She enjoys reading Jane Austen novels, walking outdoors, and writing letters.
