I-O Psychology Graduate Student Organization started and run Upward Consulting, a consulting service that offers survey services, training, development and recommendations.
The program offers customized programming to meet the needs of each client.
Students involved in Upward Consulting are involved with all of the organization’s services including:
I-O psychology students compete annually in the Consulting Challenge, a competition hosted each year by a Twin Cities area business. Students compete against challengers from I-O psychology master's programs at Minnesota State University-Mankato, Roosevelt University and Central Florida University.
At the three-day competition, mixed-university student teams develop proposals to address a current issue facing the host organization. On the last day, student teams present their proposals to a panel of judges consisting of members from the host organization, faculty and I-O psychology consultants fro the community.
Past hosts have included Target, Best Buy and Medtronics.
The I-O Psychology program offers five part-time and one full-time graduate assistantships each year. The the graduate assistants work as teaching assistants, research assistants or as a consulting program lead.
Almost 100 percent of students participate in an internship or practicum experience where they apply the knowledge they are learning in the classroom in a real-world experience in industry.
