WCAG 2.1 AA Checklist
WCAG 2.1AA General Checklist
This checklist is based on the WebAIM: WebAIM's WCAG 2 Checklist.
Text and Links
- Only San Serif fonts are used (Calibri, Arial, Roboto, etc.)
- Text format (shape, color, style) is not used exclusively to convey meaning
- Bulleted or numbered lists created using built-in editor tools
- Hyperlinks use descriptive text (not URL) to provide meaning (not “click here”)
- Text is not underlined unless it is a hyperlink
- All text is at least 12 point font
Headings
- Built-in styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.) are used to create document or page structure and logical outline (not bold or font change)
- Heading titles are not repeated
Images
- All pictures, charts, and graphs that contain information have alternative text
- Alternative text (Alt text) is descriptive and conveys intended meaning of image
- Images are not used solely to convey meaning
- Images that do not convey content are marked as decorative
Documents
- Scanned PDFs are never used
- PDFs are tagged accurately
- PowerPoint presentations use templates and built-in formatting
- Accessibility checks are performed—errors and warnings are remediated
- Ensure the tab order and reading sequence follow a predictable, intuitive flow
Tables
- Used only for tabular data, not for layout purposes
- Complex tables with merged/split cells are instead broken down to smaller tables
- Include identified column and/or row headings
Colors
- Text color has 4.5:1 color contrast ratio; 3:1 contrast for large text
- Graphical objects have minimum 3:1 color contrast ratio
- Avoid these color combinations: red/black, red/green, and blue/yellow
- Color alone is not used to convey meaning (example: red text means important)
Multimedia
- All audio content includes transcripts
- All videos have accurate synchronized captions
- Embedded multimedia is identified with accessible text
- Audio description is provided for videos where visual information is not spoken
