Film Production

Currently, this program is not accepting applications. A minor in Film Studies is available.

As a film production minor, you will have an opportunity to get an overview of what it takes to make a film, some specialized training in a specific craft and an opportunity to collaborate with other students on making a festival-ready short film. Our alumni have success finding production and post-production jobs, both in the area and in Los Angeles, California.

Program Highlights

  • Production classes are taught by a production experienced professor in both above-the-line (director, producer) and below-the-line (cinematography, art department, sound) positions.
  • In collaboration with the theatre program, we offer an opportunity of taking an acting/directing for camera course alongside theatre acting students.
  • We provide professional lighting and camera equipment to get students started on careers in camera and grip and electric departments.
  • As a capstone for the program, students take a workshop class, where they collaborate on two short films in groups of four, performing a specific role (director, producer, cinematographer, production designer).
  • Every year the department brings distinguished guest artists. Past visiting directors include: Cynthia Wade, Godfrey Reggio and Moon Molson, among others.
  • The minor encourages cross-disciplinary experiences. Students are required to take an elective in art, creative writing, communication studies, mass communications, theatre or music.
