Accessibility at the Library

St. Cloud State University Library is committed to providing equitable access to library resources, spaces, and services for students, faculty, and staff. We strive to ensure that everyone can access the information and support they need for academic and research success.

Students who need academic accommodations may also contact Student Accessibility Services.

  • Parking: Accessible parking spaces are available in the Miller Pay Lot

  • Elevators: Public elevators provide access to all floors of the James W. Miller Learning Resources Center. If you need assistance entering or exiting an elevator, please ask at the Circulation Desk (1st floor).

  • Entrances: Both main entrances to the library provide wheelchair access. The library entrance is located on the first floor.

  • Restrooms: Accessible restrooms are located on each floor and wing of the James W. Miller Learning Resources Center. 

  • Quiet zones: 3rd floor and the west basement are designated quiet zones. In these spaces, we ask all users to keep conversations to a minimum and silence mobile devices.  
  • Student Study Rooms: Enclosed study rooms are available for checkout by enrolled students for small group or independent study.  The Student Parent Study Room includes toys and games to engage small children while their caregiver studies.  Visit the Circulation Desk (1st floor) to reserve.

  • Re-Charge Room: An enclosed Re-Charge Room is a low-stimulation environment and may be especially helpful for individuals experiencing stress, sensory overload, fatigue, or the need for a brief reset.  Visit the Circulation Desk (1st floor) to reserve.

Physical collection

  • Request books and other materials through the Husky Fetch retrieval service.
  • Library of Things equipment available for checkout includes:
    • Headphones
    • Large Print Wireless Keyboard
    • Reader 2 Reading Pen
    • Assisted Listening Device
    • Digital Voice Recorders and Amplifiers

Electronic Resources and Digital Collections

  • The library works with vendors and publishers to improve accessibility of electronic resources. As part of our purchasing process, we request:
    • Accessibility contact information.
    • Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) and related accessibility documentation.
    • Public accessibility statements and user guidance
  • Accessibility is also a priority for digital collections curated by SCSU Library, including The Repository and St. Cloud State and University Archives. Our team works to ensure new digital collections follow accessibility best practices and to improve access to older materials.

  • Visit the Circulation Desk (1st floor) for support using library resources and services
  • Book Scan Stations - Self-service scanners are located on both sides of the main staircase on the first floor and in Creativity Commons. These scanners allow you to scan and save books and documents.

Assistive Technology

Students who would like to use assistive technology in the library must contact the office of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) (sas@stcloudstate.edu or 320-308-4080) for training and computer login authorization.

      • Two (2) dedicated computers with Internet access (ADA1, ADA2)

        • FUSION Vision Software
        • Jaws (reads computer screens, including Web pages)
        • Zoom Text (enlarges computer screen)
  • Dragon Natural Speaking software available on Windows PC in a library conference room.  Visit the Circulation Desk to make a reservation.
  • Videophone on 1st floor west, near MC 137.
