Department of Computer Science and Information Technology

Student Organizations

Active student organizations, such as our student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, and the Information Technology and Security Club and provide social and local and global professional networking opportunities for students.

Activities such as club projects and cyber defense practice sessions enhance learning. The ITS club also invites guest speakers, works with campus IT and on community service projects.

Our students also compete in cyber defense competitions. Team members defend a business simulation network from hired, professional vulnerability analysts (hackers).

We won the Minnesota Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition in 2011, the State and Regional Cyber Defense competitions in 2012, and the AppSec USA (Application Security) University challenge in October 2011.

Several students were invited to join cyber security camps after winning the competition, and were lured by several companies for jobs/internships.
