Strategic Plan

1. Intentional Anti-Racist Curriculum / Pedagogy

  • Global academic focus with equal emphasis on Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Indigenous people.
  • Support for racial issues and diversity courses in General Education
  • CARE Understanding Racism Workshops available to campus and greater community

2. Intentional & Accountable Anti-Racist Community Engagement

  • Campus and community anti-racist leadership council
  • More student & community members of underrepresented and historically underserved groups involved in leadership roles
  • CARE + Anti-Racist efforts + President’s Council = ONE EFFORT
  • Regular meetings with people from underrepresented and historically underserved groups in community and advisory capacity for the University
  • University & Community united in Anti-Racism efforts
  • Working groups to address specific problem areas
  • More people from underrepresented and historically underserved communities active in local school districts

3. Affirmative Action Practices

  • Effective and supportive Affirmative Action office

4. Anti-Racist Accountability

  • The University adopts the CARE mission

  • Official status for faculty of color / students of color caucus, Racial Issues Colloquium and formal responsibility for decision input
  • SCSU civic engagement, commitments, responsive/accountable to the communities of underrepresented and historically underserved groups
  • Campus united against racism backlash and resistance

5. Embedded and Effective CARE team

  • CARE initiative is fully financially supported and has a core membership of representative from across the campus
  • Respectful, accountable interactions between CARE team members
  • Effective and valued CARE leadership team
  • CARE strategic plan + University strategic plan = ONE PLAN
  • Student Government, Faculty Senate and other campus units involved with CARE team and implementing goals

6. Supportive Environment for Students of Color

  • SCSU recruiting underrepresented and historically underserved students from district 742
  • Underrepresented and historically underserved students graduating at the same rate as white students
  • Enrollment of underrepresented and underserved students increase to 15%
  • Increased satisfaction of underrepresented and historically underserved students demonstrated by increased applications from underrepresented and historically underserved students.

7. Supportive Environment for Employees of Color

  • New employees of underrepresented and historically underserved groups are well supported and retained
  • Develop a system that promotes anti-racism work in Probation, Evaluation, Promotion and Tenure process
  • Increased satisfaction of underrepresented and historically underserved people demonstrated by increased applications from underrepresented and historically underserved people
