As the national demand for addiction counseling treatment services grows, so does the demand for our interns and graduates in addiction counseling.

Our students excel in internships, earning site supervisors' top ratings. That means they also move swiftly into addictions treatment work.

We get to know our applicants for the major through an extensive application process and a personal interview, and we consider work experience, academics, interpersonal skills and commitment to addiction counseling work when we accept students to the major.

We offer online and on-campus courses, and we prepare students to go on to graduate degrees in counseling or professional psychology programs.

We're one of the few Minnesota colleges and universities that offer a bachelor's degree in Addiction Counseling.

Our academic program meets the requirements for the Addiction Counselor License, and our graduates are prepared to apply for the Minnesota Licensed Addictions and Drug Counselor licensure.

A minor in Addiction Studies is also available.

Our students learn how to understand people in the framework of their culture and empower them in their communities. They apply psychological theories and principles with diverse and underserved individuals, families, communities, and organizations.

We teach professional and helping skills by involving students in experiential labs, research, field work and internships throughout the entire major, beginning to end.

Interested students connect with a program adviser in their first or second year to review our online and on-campus course offerings and to learn about our student clubs and volunteer opportunities.

Our students work and volunteer in many of St. Cloud’s community agencies, including youth clubs, mental and behavioral health treatment centers, women’s shelters, schools, early childhood programs, senior care, and residential treatment centers. 

Our graduates find employment and careers in human service, government, school, and business settings. Many go on for graduate work in our programs in clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, addictions counseling, applied behavior analysis, marriage and family therapy, rehabilitation counseling, and college counseling and student development.
