Earth Science Student Honored with Outstanding Research Award Student Award at Minnesota State Posters at St. Paul

Earth Science student Eryn Bloom (Advisor Dr. Sarah Gibson) was honored with an outstanding research award at the Minnesota State Posters at St. Paul presentation at the Minnesota State Capitol. Eryn's poster award was for her project, “Flood Risk Preparedness of Upper Midwest State Parks and Recreation Areas.” She was one of four award winners out of nearly 40 presentations.

The research was done as part of her senior capstone as a double major in earth sciences and hydrology. Bloom and her advisor, Dr. Sarah Z. Gibson, collaborated with ISG Inc., a full-service engineering firm based in Mankato, and the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASPFM) Foundation to develop the project.

Meteorology Students Forecasting 2026 Special Olympics USA Games Huskies at the Olympics

SCSU students from the Meteorology program will be on-site taking temperature and humidity measurements at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. They will be joined by Meteorology faculty Dr. Rachel Humphrey.

Earth Science Student wins Poster Award at International Conference Student Award at Joint Meeting of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists

Spencer Ott, a graduate student at SCSU advised by Dr. Sarah Gibson, won an award for best student poster in Ichthyology for his work on fossil fish biodiversity from the Triassic.

Earth Science Student Receives Excellence in Leadership Award Student Award

The Department of Campus Involvement awarded the 37th annual Excellence in Leadership Awards at St. Cloud State University, including recognition for Earth Science student Eryn Bloom who received the Dennis M. Thayer Award.
