Speak Up for St. Cloud State

A lot of what happens at St. Cloud State gets decided in St. Paul. How much tuition goes up. Whether an aging building gets replaced. Whether the state keeps investing in the university that educates so much of Central Minnesota. Legislators pay attention when they hear from the people back home, and that is where you come in.

Signing up takes a couple of minutes. We won't ask you for money and you don't need to belong to a political party.

Who we're hoping will join

Anyone who cares about St. Cloud State is welcome. Here's why we're asking you in particular.

Alumni

Huskies live in just about every legislative district in the state. A note from a constituent carries more weight than anything the university can send on its own.

Community Supporters

If you hire our graduates, partner with our faculty, or just like having a university in the neighborhood, you have a stake in this too.

Students

Part of your tuition bill is set at the Capitol. Nobody can explain what that means better than someone who is paying it right now.

Staff

You see every day what state funding does and doesn't cover. As a private citizen, you can tell your own legislator about it.

Faculty

You know what your students go on to do. Legislators want to hear about that from the people who taught them.

What we'll ask of you

We know you're busy, so we've kept this simple.

Keep up with what's happening

A few times a year we'll send a short email explaining what the Legislature is considering, what St. Cloud State is asking for, and why it matters here. We'll write it in plain English and keep it short.

Contact your legislators when it matters

Two or three times a session, when a vote is coming up, we'll ask you to send a message to your own representative and senator. We'll give you a draft of a few talking points. Change it however you like. Your own words always work best.

Tell us your story

How did St. Cloud State change things for you? Maybe you were the first in your family to go to college, or you got a job in your field right out of school, or a professor took a chance on you. With your permission, we'll share stories like yours with legislators and the press. They remember a story long after they've forgotten a statistic.

Come along when you can

Once a year we take a group of Huskies to the Capitol for the day. We also set up smaller meetings with legislators in their home districts and show up at community events around the region. If you can join us, great. We'll handle the arrangements and get you ready beforehand.

What we're asking for this year

St. Cloud State is one of 33 colleges and universities in the Minnesota State system, and we go to the Legislature together. The system's request is our request. These are the pieces that matter most for our campus and our region.

  • Operation funding that keeps tuition within reach
  • Money to fix and replace campus buildings
  • Support for the programs our region counts on

Fill in the form and you're in! We'll be in touch when there's something worth your attention, and not before.

We ask for your home ZIP code so we can figure out which House and Senate districts you live in. That way, when you write to a legislator, you're writing as one of their own constituents. We won't share your information with anyone, and you can unsubscribe whenever you want.
