Faculty News

Dr. Christopher Lehman’s most recent publication, Slavery’s Reach: Southern Slaveholders in the North Star State (2019, Minnesota Historical Society) won the Minnesota Book Award in the category “Minnesota Nonfiction.”

Dr. Mumbi Mwangi has been awarded an Honorary Professorship at Nelson Mandela University, affiliated with the Centre for the Advancement of Non-Racialism and Democracy (February 2020).

The Asian Pacific American Studies Program (directed by Dr. Kyoko Kishimoto) received the “AY 2019 Outstanding Assessment Honorable Mention for Program” Award (October 2019).

Dr. Christopher Lehman spearheaded the movement to rename the building that the Department of Ethnic, Gender, & Women’s Studies was housed in from Building 51 to Ruby Cora Webster Hall in honor of St. Cloud State University’s first African American graduate in 1909. The dedication ceremony took place on October 15, 2018 with 15 members of Ruby Cora Webster’s family in attendance.

Dr. Beth Berila gave a TEDx Talk, “The Unexpected Bridge to Connection” (2018), that blends intersectional feminism and mindfulness to help communities more fully embody social justice.

Dr. Jeanne Lacourt is currently the only American Indian to become a Diplomate Jungian Psychoanalyst in the United States. She is a founding board member for Reciprocity Matters.
