Minnesota Undergraduate Linguistics Symposium (MULS)

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a registration fee?

No, registration is free for everyone attending the symposium. However, we do ask that anyone planning to attend the symposium registers in advance so we have an accurate count of the number of people attending.

When does it start?

The symposium will begin at 9:00 AM on April 9. For more details, please see the full MULS 2016 schedule.

My research is language-related, but not technically "linguistics" research — can I still present at the symposium?

Definitely! We're interested in presentations from a wide variety of disciplines and research areas related to language, not just those sub-fields traditionally included in the umbrella of "linguistics" research.

Do I need to have a final paper prepared for the symposium?

No. We require everyone presenting to submit a finalized abstract of their work for inclusion in the abstract book, but you certainly do not need to have a polished or published paper in order to talk about your work.

I'm not from Minnesota. Can I still attend or present at the Minnesota Undergraduate Linguistics Symposium?

Of course! The schools organizing and sponsoring this conference are all from Minnesota, but that doesn't mean students and faculty from out of state aren't welcome — we'd love to have you join us!

Will meals be provided?

Yes! There will be a continental breakfast available at the beginning of the conference, and everyone who registers will receive lunch at Garvey Commons.
