The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature
at St. Cloud State University is proud of its long tradition of preparing
students for work and career, as well as personal enrichment. We are committed
to language as a vehicle to understand other people and cultures and make
that commitment the focus of our activities. We actively sponsor and staff
study-abroad programs in France, Germany, and Chile. We have a broad and
diverse faculty representing four continents who offer courses from beginning
language to the most advanced undergraduate courses in literature, culture
and teaching pedagogy.
Our alumni have gone on into careers in business, teaching, international relations, government and science; others have pursued graduate degrees in the language and literary studies. Our goal is to give students a working knowledge of the language that will form the basis of their on-going development of language and cultural skills.
Mission
The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature works to provide students
with outstanding language preparation for future language studies, as well
as for careers in business, teaching, and other enterprises where international
awareness and language proficiency are important. We serve a significant
role in promoting cultural diversity at SCSU and advancing external relationships
with campuses and institutions of higher learning around the world. We
sponsor and promote outreach and support to schools in the community and
the state. |
