The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at St. Cloud State University has a long tradition of preparing students for professional careers, future academic work, and upcoming rich and varied life experiences. We believe that the rigorous study of foreign languages and literatures is a primary vehicle for understanding other peoples and cultures.
The department employs a diverse and experienced faculty who represent four continents and offers courses from beginning language sections to advanced courses in literature, culture and pedagogy. Additionally, we enthusiastically sponsor study-abroad programs in France, Germany, and Chile.
In the professional world, alumni from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature often pursue careers in business, international relations, government and science. Other graduates find their home within the academy and choose to pursue graduate degrees or teaching in language and literature field. Whatever your career path, we strive to provide students with the working knowledge of language and literature necessary to comprise the foundation of your development within the University and beyond.
