The Write Place

Meet the Staff

Emily Anderson

  • I am a communication arts and literature major. I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from St. Cloud State in 2012 in studio art with an emphasis in photography but decided to return to school to become a high school language arts teacher. In my spare time I enjoy taking glamour shots of cats.

Nicholas Erickson

  • My name is Nick, and I am a lifelong learner who is excited to help people empower themselves with simple rhetorical skills. My mission is to personally support individuals in their writing and help them find a greater knowledge of themselves and the world around them through writing. I also have a passion for philosophy, theology and psychology. Finally, I'm a willing listener who loves the art of narrative to understand the universe.

Melissa Frank

  • Brightest blessings!  My name is Melissa and I am a senior here at St. Cloud State with two majors: English rhetoric and women's studies. I am applying for a hybrid doctoral program this year, so this may be my last year at the Write Place, but I may be here through my master’s studies if I am not accepted to the University of Michigan. My hobbies include video games, traveling, coffee and crushing the patriarchy! I am excited to work with each of you to help you develop your writing techniques and to learn about what you find passion in.

Grant Garrett

  • I’m Grant, I’m from Mount Vernon, Illinois (no it’s not by Chicago). I am a first-year graduate student, and I am in the rhetoric and writing studies program. I attended two years at Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois and two years at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. I played baseball as a catcher for all four years as an undergraduate. I love music (especially rap), and I also love both playing and watching sports.

Beth Hoyt

  • My name is Elizabeth, but I go by Beth. I only am called Elizabeth when I’m in trouble. I am a graduate student studying teaching English as a second language. I did my undergraduate studies in psychology and Spanish at Winona State University. I also attended Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota for two years. I thoroughly enjoy traveling and learning about new cultures. I have been to Guatemala, Brazil and Mexico. I aspire to travel to Europe in the future. I hope to live in another country when I am done with my degree.

Abdirahman Ikar

  • My name is Abdirahman Ikar. You can call me Ikar unless you're really ambitious and would like to call me by my first name. I have many years of tutoring experience in a variety of subjects. My undergraduate degree is in biology, but I'm pursuing a Master of Arts in teaching English as a second language. English is my second language, and my first language is Somali. I am also studying Arabic. I look forward to working with you in the Write Place!

Natalie Jagunich

  • This is my fourth semester working as an undergraduate writing consultant at the Write Place. I’m majoring in English literature and communications, and this is my fifth year at St. Cloud State. In my spare time I like to read and write poetry (typical English major). I enjoy hanging out with my dog, Nacho, jamming out to rad tunes, reading feminist literature and helping folks in the writing center. After graduation I hope to go into publishing or pursue a master’s degree.

Ashley Kammermeier

  • I am an undergraduate senior majoring in English creative writing and minoring in history. This is my first semester working at the Write Place and I am excited about working here. In my spare time I like reading, watching TV and writing.

Hye Hyon Kim

  • I graduated from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in South Korea, double majoring in English literature and English interpretation and translation. I used to work as a freelance translator translating documentaries, magic shows and music festivals, but my dream is to become a professor in English literature as I love to read and write. My favorite books are “Giovanni’s Room” by James Baldwin and “No Matter the Wreckage” by Sarah Kay.

My hobbies include playing Sims, watching TED videos and putting together jigsaw puzzles. I am also very active and enjoy being outside, jogging, cycling and watching sports!

Darcy Koepp

  • I'm a freshman here at St. Cloud State. I'm a desk worker at the Write Place. I was born and raised in the small town of Rockford, Minnesota. I plan on majoring in accounting and possibly minoring in Spanish. I'm also the first of my two siblings to attend college. I look forward to spending the next four years here in St. Cloud!

In my free time I love to be outdoors, but at the same time, I like to be inside working on artsy things. When I'm not doing homework or sleeping, you can find me hanging out with my friends.

Anthony Larson

  • I am a mass communication major who spends a lot of time volunteering for the campus television station UTVS. I enjoy keeping up to date on current events, videography and being introverted.

Alex Marron

  • I am an undergraduate, who is a lover of words and languages, majoring in rhetoric and philosophy. I have experience in creative, academic, grad-level, philosophical, scientific and business writing. I hope to become a novelist and professor one day. I have been published in several college/university publications, including Kaleidoscope, The Write Place's multicultural literature and art magazine. I enjoy working with all levels of writers, native and non-native English speakers and students with special needs.

Kayla McElhone

  • I am one of the many front desk workers. I am getting my degree in communication studies, with a minor in management. I have worked here a little more than a year, so if you have general questions, or need handouts for class, feel free to ask.

Benjamin Reigstad

  • My name is Benjamin, but you can call me Ben. I am a second-year graduate student, pursuing a Master of Arts in English studies, and I have been working at The Write Place for just more than five semesters, both as an undergraduate and as a graduate. More about me? Well, I enjoy writing poetry and fictional stories whenever I’m in the mood; I also like daydreaming (a bit too much of that, sometimes) and animals, especially dogs, horses and cats.

What about you? I hope to see you soon at The Write Place!

Nathaniel Van Heuveln

  • Nate was born and raised in Central Minnesota and has been shaped by his experiences of traveling and teaching in East Asia. As a proud husband and father, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in psychology at St. Cloud State University, which is where he is working hard toward a Master of Science in industrial-organization psychology. Upon graduation, he looks forward to advancing in a career as an organizational psychologist and consultant. Nate is known to enjoy snorkeling in tropical waters.
