Global Women's Issues

In examining women’s issues, it is critical to understand that the discrimination and relegation of women as second class citizens is a global problem. Women’s movements around the world are trans-national and multi-faceted with diverse interests and goals that are unique to geographic location, cultural influence, economic conditions, and laws. These many movements seek to ensure that women are guaranteed equity in the political, legal, economic, and social arenas. They aim to achieve these goals by advocating for economic security for all women, campaigning against gender violence and promoting health, education and leadership opportunities for girls and women. Since global women’s issues are as diverse as women themselves, there are a variety of organizations that work to ensure equality for the women they serve; some function at a grassroots level, others at a national level, and some are global networks operating in numerous countries.
