November 2017 Saint Cloud Weather Summary

November Needs Near Record Warmth to Finish Near Average

Saint Cloud Weather Summary for November 2017 and Fall 2017

The final 9 days of November were warmer than average, with four days being at least 14 degrees warmer than average. This includes the record-breaking high of 57 on November 24 and the record-tying 58 on November 27. The last 9 days averaged 31.8 degrees, typical of mid-November. But that merely cancelled out the cold first two weeks of the month. Twelve of the first 13 days this morning were colder than average with 5 days more than 10 degrees colder.

That made the average for the month nearly normal. The St. Cloud November 2017 average temperature was 30.0°F, 0.4°F below average. The daily records set in St. Cloud were those two record highs noted above plus a record warm average temperature on November 27. However, there was a record high daily snowfall during the cold start of the month with 4.0 inches of new snow on November 3. There was a total of 5.7 inches of snow with 4 days of measurable snowfall, two days with highs in the 20's and two days with lows in single digits.

Thus, the St. Cloud snowfall through November 30 was 7.1 inches, not far below the average of 9.5 inches.

There was 0.82 inch of liquid locked up in the snowfall and other rain events. Still, November 2017 precipitaiton was more than half an inch below average. The lack of moisture, especially after the spotty early snow dried up, led to frequent concern for wildfires on any days that had highs in the 40's or 50's during the last third of November.

Overall, the fall (September 1-November 30) had an average temperature of 46.5 degrees, 1.6 degrees above average, but far short of last year's 4th mildest fall and 2nd warmest November.
