Minnesota Teacher Licensure Exam
Teacher candidates in the State of Minnesota are required to pass a series of standardized tests in order to obtain licensure. These tests consist of three main parts: Basic Skills Tests, Pedagogy Tests, and Content Area Tests. Each of these tests are further broken down into their own individual subtests.

Basic Skills
- Typically taken in third semester or before
- Not needed to graduate but required to obtain Tier 4 licensure in Minnesota
Pedagogy
- Not needed to graduate but needed for initial teacher licensure
- Start testing at least three months prior to graduation
- Two subtests
Content
- Not needed to graduate but needed for licensure
- Start testing at least three months prior to graduation
- Two subtests (except for Elementary Education which has three subtests)
