Active and Applied Learning

"We must provide opportunities to put classroom learning into action in order to provide our students with practical experience and reinforce their learning." - President Potter.

Active learning is many things: service learning, engagement with faculty in research, producing works of art for performances and shows, as well as internships and practicum experiences. The broader St. Cloud community is a valuable extension of the classroom where students find many opportunities to put academic learning into practice. An estimated 85% of our students have jobs, many in the community, and, collectively, our students invest 1 million volunteer hours a year.

Studies have shown that students engaged in these life-altering activities are more likely to be successful before and after graduation. Through active and applied learning, we are committed to teaching our students to recognize the responsibilities that go along with being good citizens and neighbors in this community and in future communities where they will live and work.
