Unleash Justice

2021 Theme: Unleash Justice

Jan. 29-30, 2021 (virtual)

Over the past few years our country has been divided by numerous issues and this has had a significant impact on our nation. Recently, the murder of George Floyd directly devastated our students and our communities. Our theme, Unleash Justice, invites attendees and presenters to explore and discuss justice issues facing communities of color and oppressed groups.

  • Yusef Salaam, member of the Central Park Five, will open the conference Friday, Jan. 29 setting the stage as he shares his journey and personal experiences fighting for justice. Recently, Yusef was at University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School discussing criminal justice with John Legend
  • Minnesota State System Chancellor, Devinder Malhotra, will provide the lunchtime address prior to the Diversity Job and Internship Fair and Graduate School Fair.
    • This is a great opportunity for students and employers to think critically about the relationship of equity, education and employment.
      • Following the Chancellor's remarks, students will attend the virtual Diversity Job and Internship Fair and Graduate School Fair on Handshake.
  • Crystal Leigh Endsley, activist and professor of Africana Studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York, will lay the foundation for a racial caucusing activity. Check out her conversation on forgiveness
    • Participants will self-select into racial identity conversation groups such as:
      • Native American; Asian; South Asian; Middle Eastern; Black/African/African American; Chicanx/Latinx; Multiracial; and White Ally's.
      • These discussions will be facilitated by skilled faculty, staff and community members.
      • While in these safe spaces, people will share their experiences as members of their group.
    • Keynote Endsley will then close the conference with an address that honors these individual and group experiences and will share how we can move forward with actionable next steps.
