Innovative, Hands-On Engineering Education

Our hands-on programs prepare students to understand emerging technologies and their impact on society by integrating social sciences with coursework in mathematics, science, computer science, engineering, and mechanical and electronic design.

Faculty expertise includes controls and robotics, manufacturing processes, thermal sciences, automation, machine design, computer-aided design, materials science, optics and lasers, production management, quality engineering, and lean manufacturing.

The Mechanical Engineering program prepares graduates for careers in product and process design, research and development, and project engineering in industrial settings. The Manufacturing Engineering program prepares graduates for careers in process design, production systems, facilities layout, tool design, and project engineering in manufacturing environments. Both programs also provide strong preparation for graduate study.

In addition, the department offers full-time and part-time master's degree options in Engineering Management, based in the Twin Cities. This program is the only one in Minnesota certified by the American Society of Engineering Management.
