Geography and Planning

About us

One of Minnesota's most comprehensive departments, we specialize in these areas: Geographic Information Science (GIS), Hospitality and Tourism, Land Surveying and Mapping Sciences, Planning and Community Development, Social Studies Education and cultural/physical/regional Geography.

We offer cutting-edge research facilities in GIS, image processing and cartography.

Our students study abroad, mature in organizations, network and present at events, gain experience in real-world internships, and leverage the national and international connections of our faculty.

Geography is the study of places and the relationships between people and their environments. Geographers explore both the physical properties of Earth's surface and the human societies spread across it.

Requests for transferring credits for major requirements and electives need to be addressed to the Department Chair, Dr. Gareth John, for program consideration.
