Jim Pehler '65 '67 COLAJim Pehler joined St. Cloud State University in 1966 as an instructor in the Speech Department Mass Communications area of Radio and Television. He was granted tenure and promoted to Assistant Professor in 1971. The following year, Mr. Pehler was elected to the Minnesota State House of Representatives and served four 2 year terms. As a member of the House he served on committees specializing in the areas of Education, Taxes, Local and Urban Government and Labor-Management Relations. In November of 1980 he was elected to the Minnesota State Senate and continued his committee assignments. In 1983 Jim Pehler was re-elected to the Senate and selected by the Senate members to become Chair of the Senate Education Committee. He continued to serve in the Senate until retiring in 1991 after 18 years of total Legislative service.

In January 1991, Mr. Pehler returned to St. Cloud State Learning Resource Center, where he assumed the position of Acquisitions coordinator and in 1993 was promoted to Associate Professor. In May of 1998 Jim was elected President of the local Faculty Association for St. Cloud State University and re-elected in 1999. In 2000 Jim was elected as President of the Inter-Faculty Organization (IFO), the state wide collective bargaining unit for all state university faculty within the Minnesota State System. After serving the maximum of two 2 year terms, Jim returned to SCSU Learning Resource Center serving as a Reference specialist in the federal and state government area and teaching print and electronic data research classes until his retirement from SCSU in May of 2006.

Jim Pehler serves on the following boards: Central Minnesota Sexual Assault Center; City of St. Cloud Arts Commission; Minnesota Legislative Society, a statewide non-partisan, nonprofit organization assisting students in understanding the Legislative process; Member of the Local Education Arts and Activities Committee (LEAF) Renaissance Fundraising Committee, The Night of the Stars Committee and is a past member of the Board of Directors. Jim also served as a Board member and Chair of the St. Cloud Public Library Board during the planning and construction stages of its new Library.

Jim has a B.S. and a M.A. in Communication Studies from St. Cloud State University.
