Orientation Leaders introduce new students to life at St. Cloud State.

Who should apply?

  • Students who want to be more involved in campus
  • Students who love St. Cloud State and want to share their experiences with others
  • Students wanting to develop their leadership and communication skills
  • Huskies who like to have fun!

Some of our Orientation Leaders served as LINK Crew Leaders in high school or as peer mentors at their community colleges. No specific experience required -- just enthusiasm for helping new students and a love for St. Cloud State.

Easily identifiable in their neon shirts, Orientation Leaders work with first year, transfer and adult students. They are at major orientation events, from Opening Ceremony to Academic Orientation, Atwood After Dark to Saturday orientation groups.

Over the summer, Orientation Leaders call and email new students to introduce themselves and answer questions.

Applications for the Summer 2020 team will open in December 2019. 

OL's must be available to work Huskies First Four Days, our campus-wide new student orientation program on Aug. 22-25, 2019. Training dates are April 16 and August 19 and 20, 2019. 

Job Duties

We hire students to be Orientation Leaders to help with:

  • Greeting & Checking-in new students
  • Talking about your St. Cloud State experience and answering questions about campus
  • Attending events & encouraging new students to meet and have fun
  • Setting up for Huskies First Four events
  • Giving students campus tours & help finding their classrooms

Students will develop their communication skills, including small group communication & public speaking, as well as their leadership skills in this position. Learn more about campus & yourself by joining a team of 80+ awesome Orientation Leaders!

We hire students looking for a more in-depth leadership experience to be Orientation Coordinators. Coords:

  • Help with hiring, training, and supervising teams of Orientation Leaders
  • Assist in the logistics & management of 50+ orientation events
  • Serve as point people for major orientation events, including late night socials
  • Coordinators should have experience in orientation or programming
