St. Cloud State launched its first varsity and junior varsity competitive Esports teams in Fall 2022 (Rocket League) and is planning future teams!

General information about competitive teams at St. Cloud State is below, however, each competitive team may have unique expectations or schedules that differ from what's listed below. 

Academic Eligibility:

  • To be eligible to play on a competitive Esports teams at St. Cloud State, you must meet academic eligibility requirements. General academic eligibility guidelines are below, however, exceptions can be made in extenuating circumstances at the discretion of St. Cloud State University. Please contact for any questions about academic eligibility.
    • 2.0 GPA in your most recent semester or a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
    • Must be registered for at least 12 credits for the upcoming or current semester.

Tryout Information:

  • You are encouraged, yet not required, to bring your own controller, keyboard and mouse.
  • Tryouts will last about 3-4 hours.

Team Decisions and Announcements:

  • Teams will be formed based upon demonstrated skill during the tryouts and academic eligibility.
  • Team announcements are expected approximately a week after tryouts.

Team Participation Expectations: 

  • Team members are expected to attend practice and competitions regularly. Teams will practice for approximately 4-5 hours per week. Competitions are expected every other week.
