Six-week course

Whether for a career move or for personal knowledge, get all the information needed to become a Certified Personal Trainer.  Our personal trainer course is a great way to prepare to be a successful nationally Certified Personal Trainer.   The collegiate course is for candidates wanting in-depth instruction and hands-on experience with a top veteran to mater the career skills & knowledge to be a successful trainer.  The course consists of:

  • 16 hours of lecture with key topics that include biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness testing, equipment usage and health assessment
  • 16 hours of hands-on practical training labs with role playing drills on exercise, presentation skills and more - prepares you to professionally master the position
  • Access to online tutorials and study tools

Level 1 - Nationally Certified Personal Trainer:  Successfully complete the written and practical exams.  CPR/AED required.

Level 2 - Nationally Certified Personal Trainer:  Successfully complete your Level 1 exams followed by a 30 hour internship that will help you connect to local employers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Textbook purchase before class starts
  • CPR/AED certification must be completed before the SCSU/WITS Level 1 certificate can be awarded.

Internship

To obtain the Level 2 certification it is a student's responsibility to arrange and complete an internship. We provide a list of pre-approved facilities to help with finding an internship. Approval for an alternate location is a simple process.

Job placement

Most students get hired directly by internship sites. While we do not secure jobs for our certified trainers, demand is high and clubs often request our list of graduates.

  • 1-4 p.m., practical

Classroom work is in the St. Cloud State Welcome Center. The practical work is at SNAP Fitness.

Cost

The $735 cost includes the testing fee for the original test date, $699 if registered/postmared by Mar. 3.  Those cost for the CPR/AED is $810, $774 if regsitered/postmarked by Mar. 3.

Registration closes Mar. 10.

Materials

Before class starts, purchase "Fitness Professional's Handbook, 7th edition," by Edward Howley and Dixie Thompson. Order the book early so you can start reading the chapters.
