Are you feeling lost or confused about choosing a major or career? There are many ways to get help!

Where to get started
  • Career assessments help you explore your interests, values, personality traits, and skills and relate them to possible majors and careers. This is a great first step in your exploration process!
  • Schedule an appointment with a career counselor. Appointments with a career counselor are best if you have in-depth questions or are really struggling with your major or career choice (50 minute appointment for current SCSU students and alumni up to one year after graduation).
  • Visit with a Peer Career Advisor (PCA). PCA's can help you if you have more general questions or are just getting started with your major or career exploration. They can also assist you with resumes, cover letters and interviewing skills.
  • Stop in during our drop in hours! Visit with a member of our team Monday - Thursday 10:00 am - 2:00 pm during the academic year. These are 15 minute appointments and are on a first come, first serve, basis.
  • Take COLL 111, Career and Life Planning. This is a 2 credit course that guides you through self-assessment, career research, decision-making, and career preparation. For current offering and sample course syllabi, please visit the COLL 111 page on our site.
  • Discover what careers you can go into with each major at SCSU and begin your exploration of the majors offered at SCSU to find a good fit for you!
  • It is up to you to research careers and find out what possibilities are out there for you. Our staff can help you get started in our resource library/computer lab.
  • Review the SCSU Career Planner. The planner contains a lot of information and activities to help you with your career planning. Download it for free!
