Student Leader Selection

Congratulations to our 2022-2023 student leader staff — check back in January to apply for the 2023-2024 team!
Student Leader Selection is a collaboration between multiple offices and programs to identify and hire students for leadership positions across campus. These are paid student employee positions through which students have the chance to positively impact campus, increase engagement, and develop highly sought-after professional skills. The Student Leader Selection process provides a simplified approach to learning about and applying for these roles.
2022 Selection Timeline
- Jan. 17: Online application becomes available
- Jan. 18, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.: Tabling in the Atwood Main Lounge. Stop by and show us a screenshot of your completed application for a free Husky Swag Bag!
- Feb. 7: Online applications close 11:59 p.m.
- Feb. 15-March 4: Interviews & Group Process
- March 18: Decision letters will sent to applicants via email
- March 25: Acceptance Deadline

University Ambassadors
University Ambassadors work in the Admissions department and give tours and work with the University Foundation to work as greeters at alumni and donor events.

Orientation Student Coordinator
Orientation Student Coordinators . provide leadership and logistical support to both of StCloud State's orientation programs: Huskies Advising & Registration and Huskies First Four Days. They mentor and provide direction to Orientation Leaders and Student Advisors.

Applications
You will be able to apply for all of the currently open student leader positions with one application, beginning Jan. 17. We recommend drafting your answers (4-5 sentences) to the required essay questions in Microsoft Word, where you can use grammar and spelling checks, and pasting them into the application when you are ready to submit.

Resume
You are encouraged to prepare a one-page resume, as you will be required to upload a current resume as part of your application.

Interviews
Although you will complete a single online application form for all of the positions above in which you are interested, if you are selected to interview for one or more, the processes will vary, with some including combined group evaluations and others going straight to individual interviews.

Can I apply for more than one position?
Yes!
How many hours can I/do I have to work?
It varies by position—be sure to read the position descriptions above. If you’re working other St. Cloud State jobs you need to stay under 20 combined hours per week during the semester and 40 during breaks. (Chartwell’s employment is an exception.)
- Peer Career Advisor – 10-20 hours/week
- First Year and Transition Experience – 5-10 hours/week
- Student Advisor – 8-9 hours on each program date listed in the position description
- Orientation Leader – roughly 30-40 hours total, mostly the week before school starts, some training throughout spring and summer
- University Ambassador – varies
Can I accept more than one role?
It depends.

What does the training commitment look like?
Most offices also have mandatory training prior to the start of fall semester. You’ll learn more if you’re offered a position!

What do Student Leadership positions pay?
The pay varies with position, but $10.33/hour at a minimum and most increase with experience.
