Minnesota Indian Teacher Training Program (MITTP)

The Minnesota Indian Teacher Training Program (MITTP) prepares American Indian students who are pursuing a degree or certification in field of education. MITTP provides grants and student support for American Indian students. MITTP is available through MN statute 122A.63, subd. 1, which states, “A grant program is established to assist American Indian people to become teachers and to provide additional education for American Indian teachers.” The statute and program expanded in 2019 to include scholarships for American Indian students focusing on a career in any area of Pre-K-12 employment, such as paraprofessional, teachers, counselors, administrators, etc. School districts with American Indian staff may consider submitting a joint grant application in conjunction with a post-secondary institution.
