St. Cloud State earned a 2013 Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization from the NAFSA Association of International Educators, the largest professional worldwide education association.

St. Cloud State was one of five U.S. institutions recognized that year for internationalization, as evidenced in practices, structures, philosophies and policies.

Heiskell Award

The Institute of International Education honored St. Cloud State with the 2013 Heiskell Award for "Best Practices in International Partnerships" – recognition of the university’s 11-year-old multidimensional partnership with the Universidad de Concepcion in Concepcion, Chile.

The Heiskell Awards showcase the most innovative and successful models for internationalizing the campus, study abroad, and international programs, particularly initiatives that remove institutional barriers and broaden the base of participation in international teaching and learning on campus.

The other three 2013 top Heiskell Awards went to Susquehanna University in the category of Internationalizing the Campus, Pitt Community College for Internationalizing the Community College and Wake Forest University for Study Abroad.

Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award

For the fifth year in a row (2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012) St. Cloud State was recognized in INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education, as a recipient of its annual Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award. The HEED Award is the only national honor recognizing U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The 83 honorees for 2016 are featured in the publication’s November issue.

Hugh Jenkins Award

For nearly three decades of service to St. Cloud State international students, Sue and Paul Westmark are the recipients of the Hugh M. Jenkins Award for Excellence in Community Programming.

The national award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to promoting global understanding and international exchange in the local community.

Given by the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers, the award honors people who exemplify a spirit of volunteerism and a long-term dedication to international exchange.

Top 4 percent of Forbes' most affordable colleges, 2013

According to Forbes, a New York-based bi-weekly, St. Cloud State is among the top 650 colleges in the nation, based on student satisfaction, post-graduate success, student debt, graduation rate and nationally competitive awards.

Based on Forbes' 2013 analysis, only 23 of "America's Top Colleges" have lower tuition than St. Cloud State. That puts St. Cloud State among the top 4 percent most affordable colleges.

UTVS earns five Broadcast Education Association Awards

St. Cloud State's campus television station, UTVS, was honored with five international media arts awards April 2013 in Las Vegas. UTVS station manager and Husky Productions producer Matt Szymanski, Sauk Rapids, won a Best of Festival Award and $1,000 from the BEA Festival of Media Arts. Just 11 of the more than 160 awards in eight media divisions were deemed Best of Festival, and Symanski and Husky Productions were honored with schools such as Wake Forest University, University of North Carolina and Arizona State University.

Sports anchor and UTVS sports director Alec Ausmus, Hinckley, won third place in the TV Sports Talent category. In television newscast categories, "UTVS En Espanol," created by Emilio Ramos DeJesus, Princeton, won second place; and "UTVS News" won third place for its Nov. 30 show. Named in the award were news directors Leah Carr, New Prague, and Lindsey Branwall, Shakopee.

UTVS was the recipient of 26 awards total for the 2012-2013 academic year, including the equivalent of college Emmy Awards from the American Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
