English 353 Introduction to Writing Center Theory and Practice
Writing center scholarship and pedagogy: literacy theory, composition theory, history of individualized writing instruction; diversified and politics of literacy education; development of reflective tutoring practices. Required of all undergraduate students seeking employment as tutors in the writing center. Prereq.: 191. 4 Cr. Spring.
English 635 Introduction to Writing Center Theory and Practice
Introduction to primary texts in writing center scholarship; exploration of intersections between composition and writing center theory; writing processes and critical intervention; academic culture and literacies; diversity and the politics of literacy education. Required of all graduate assistants in English assigned to tutor in the writing center. Recommended for all graduate students with emphases in Rhetoric and Applied Writing, Teaching College English, and Teaching English as a Second Language. 3 credits Fall.
English 653 Supervised Tutoring
This course should provide you with ongoing training and support for tutoring in the Writing Center. A class blog will be the venue through which we discuss theoretical and practical tutoring issues. Face to face meetings will be arranged as needed. Required of all graduate assistants for each semester they are assigned to tutor in the writing center. 1 credit.
