Women's Center: Gender Violence Prevention Program Services
Services for victims of sexual assault include; individual support, advocacy
information and referral, support groups, and resources from a specialized
loan library. Through a victim-centered philosophy, assault survivors
receive non-judgmental support to direct their own healing process.
What is an advocate? The term advocate is
taken from the legal model. (An attorney is an Advocate.) It is defined
as "one who pleads the cause of another" or "one who
argues for, defends, maintains or recommends a cause or proposal."
The goal of any type of advocacy is empowerment, and positive changes
in the systems available to victims of sexual assault.
